2 Weddings and a Broken Camera

The day started with some more shots around Notre Dame, as it was near our hotel. From here we walked towards another beautiful church, St. Chapelle, which is unfortunately entirely encased within a government building. This required a wait and metal detectors to go in to see it, so we continued on and just looked at it from afar.

As we progressed we got to the modern building with all of the construction on the outside, the Centre Pompidou. This was supposedly a controversial building because of it's looks, everything is exposed. Also here is a crazy fountain/park area. The fountain is made up of a bunch of crazy sculptures that shoot water and move around. It also was were they shot the Howard Jones Video for "What is Love?"

I shot some more street photography here, and continued a bit some more during the day as we walked around. We went from there through a park area with a carousel, and some large glass building. We continued to another central park area, and another church (Eglise de St. Eustache) with a huge stone head in it's courtyard.

We progressed from there to the Louvre's pyramid. We had decided that we were just going to eat lunch at the cafe and look in the gift shop. The museum is just too big and we didn't have any urge to run through it, or run through it just to see the Mona Lisa.

After lunch we started walking towards the Eiffel tower, through the Jardin des Tuileries. We decided to stop and I made the mistake of looking to see how much dust I had on the sensor of my Canon D30. Let's keep it simple and say that after I tried to clean the sensor in the park, something I should have been doing in the hotel room, that my camera was not working anymore. This put me in a crappy mood and we headed back to the hotel room to see if I could fix it. We didn't finish our walk to the Eiffel tower. Back in the hotel room I still couldn't get the camera working. I had come to the conclusion that I had rendered my primary camera inoperative for the rest of my vacation. Talk about being in a crappy mood.

We got some dinner, and then went to catch a night time boat ride up and down the Sienne. It was not great for pictures with the little sony, but definatly a cool thing to do for only 5 euros. Though make sure you bring a jacket, it gets colder in the evening on the water. We went up the river (east) past Notre Dame, which was lit up for evening viewing, turned around, floated past the Eiffel Tower and the French Statue of Liberty, amd then back again.

After the boat tour ended, we walked to the Eiffel Tower. In the evening the Tower is illuminated for viewing. For 10 minutes on the hour it also has a "sparkle" effect, like a christmas tree. The pictures don't show this very well unfortunately.
